You Can’t Medicate a Demon

Lesson 2

When I first got out of prison, I began to have vertigo all the time. After eight months of dealing with the awful symptoms, I was tested and told that I had Lupus. This horrible and painful disease causes the body to attack itself, destroying everything in the body until it ultimately brings death.

The Lord spoke to me, “Don’t go back to the doctor. I’m going to heal you.” Within a week, I had a dream that I was walking among some tombstones. Upon awaking, the Lord gave me a scripture from Mark 5, “And he, (the demoniac), had his dwelling among the tombs.” Although I didn’t fully understand the revelation, within a few days, the Lord healed me! The power of God came upon me and He completely took away the vertigo and everything associated with Lupus.

I didn’t understand why I had gotten sick or why I was healed. And then, five or six years later, I began having similar symptoms again. I had vertigo and flu-like symptoms every other week. It was horrible. I would get a prescription for powerful antibiotics, but they wouldn’t help. At the end of the round of meds, I was sicker than when I started them. That’s when I learned that you can’t medicate a demon. (Just saying).
During the cycle of horror, I remember preaching with a temperature of 103°. At the end of the sermon, I couldn’t remember a word I had said. I was praying, “I hope I helped somebody. Please God HELP!”

During this time, I was seeking the Lord, but I couldn’t hear Him. My mind was full of noise – nonsensical, useless chatter that had nothing to do with what I was thinking, asking, or talking about. My daily prayer was for Him to show me who or what was filling my mind. I would pray and speak in tongues and then listen, but got nothing. Then, one day in the middle of this battle, I heard the Lord say, “Put it under torment.”

“All right,” I said. “Let’s give it a try.” I went into the bathroom and the old street kid came out. I let that thing have it! (You can take the girl off the street but you can’t take all the street out of the girl.) I threatened him with everything I could think of. “I’m going to dig your eyes out with a fork. I’m going to scoop your liver out with a spoon. I’m going to kick you in the “you know what” with my steel toed boots.”

At the end of my tirade, there was silence in my mind. And then, God once again gave me the scripture from Mark 5 about the demoniac that was dwelling among the tombs. Holy Spirit highlighted Legion running up to Jesus, throwing himself on his knees and saying, “…What have You to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? [What is there in common between us?] I solemnly implore you by God, do not begin to torment me!” Mark 5:7 (AMPC). He didn’t want to be tormented! That’s why he shut his stinking mouth when I tormented him!

The voices came back pretty quickly, but now I knew what I was dealing with! I soon discovered that we have things in our soul that allow spirits to torment us. Instead of screaming at the enemy, we need to get our inner man healed of everything we have in common with the devil and then he will have no power over us!

Jesus made this clear in John 14:30-31 (AMPC). He said, “…the prince (evil genius, ruler) of the world is coming. And he has no claim on Me. [He has nothing in common with Me; there is nothing in Me that belongs to him, and he has no power over Me.].” The devil will not have any power over you, when you have nothing in you, that’s in common with him.

When you are born again, you don’t have anything in your spirit man that’s in common with the devil, because inside of you is Christ, the hope of glory. Your spirit man is perfect and has nothing in common with Satan. But your soul is not the same. Your spirit man is saved, but your soul is in the process of receiving full salvation. The word salvation doesn’t just mean to receive eternal life. It also means healing. That Greek word is “sozo” meaning: “healing, to heal someone of a disease.”

You’ve got diseases in your soul. Remember in Philippians 2:12, we are told to walk out our salvation with fear and trembling. You don’t have to walk out your salvation in your spirit because it’s made perfect instantly, but you’ve got to walk out salvation in your soul, because your soul needs to be healed!
