Understanding Your Soul

Lesson 21

I know I said we would activate this week, but first I need to prove that sin and trauma wound the soul and that those wounds cause physical illness.

In Job 1, raiders came and took Job’s wealth by stealing his herds, camels, oxen, and sheep and by killing his servants. Then a whirlwind came and crushed the house where all his children were gathered. In chapter 2, Job was further traumatized when Satan came and put boils on him from the top of his head to the soles of his feet!

That’s a lot of trauma for one person to go through! The word “soul” is mentioned 23 times and each time Job says this something like, “My soul is vexed. My soul is mourning. My soul is poured out. I am bitter in soul.” By Job’s own confession trauma affected his inner man by putting wounds on his soul. Like Job, we have lived through trauma and have some degree of wounding in our soul because of what we’ve endured.

Likewise, sin wounds the soul. Isaiah 30:26 (AMPC) “…the Lord binds up the hurt of His people, and heals their wound [inflicted by Him because of their sins].” That word “wound” in the Hebrew means pains and sorrows; the hurtful, tormenting emotions we experience when our souls have been wounded by sin.
In Psalm 38 David is lamenting his sin. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and murdered her husband, Uriah. Those sins literally wounded David’s soul because in verses 5-11 he tells us that his wounds fester and are loathsome because of his sinful folly and his friends avoid him because of his wounds. There’s no indication that he was injured physically because of those sins. He was wounded in his inner man. He also says in verse 8 (NKJV) “I groan because of the turmoil of my heart.” That word “heart” refers to the soul.

Romans 3:23 (NKJV), “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Every person has sinned and those sins have consequences. “Yes, but I repent.” This is good and is the first step in getting our soul healed, because sin (especially chronic sin), leaves a wound in our soul that must have the blood applied to wash us clean. You also need the power (Dunamis) that comes from the resurrection to heal the wound made by sin and trauma.
Mark 9:47-49 (NKJV) “If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye rather than two eyes to be cast into hell where the worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched. For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. Salt is good, but if salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.” When I first read this, I thought, “This scripture’s all over the place. Pulling your eye out of your head is better than going to hell…and you’re supposed to be filled with salt?” First, I looked up the second half of the scripture and the word ‘salt’ (according to Thayer’s) is a symbol of the health and vigor of soul, which is essential to Christian virtue.

Then I unpacked the first part that speaks about your eye causing you to stumble and sin. We have all heard the phrase, “The eye is the window to the soul.” The word “eye” in Mark 9:47 actually means the mind, the faculty of knowing. If you have something in your soul, you need to pluck it out (get rid of it) and have salt (health and vigor of soul) instead. So, you’re supposed to pluck out of your eye (soul) the wounds that are formed by sin.

Read Mark 9 from AMPC “And if your eye causes you to stumble and sin, pluck it out! It is more profitable and wholesome for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell (Gehenna), where their worm which preys on the inhabitants and is a symbol of the wounds inflicted on the man himself by his sins does not die, and the fire is not put out.” That sure cleared it up for me! Trauma and sin wound the soul. And when the soul is wounded by sin or trauma, it can cause sickness.

God is the one telling us that wounds on our soul can make us physically sick. Micah 6:13 (AMPC), “Therefore I have smitten you with a deadly wound and made you sick because of your sin.” God told Israel when they had rebelled against him continually that their rebellion had wounded them. What happens in the soul affects the physical body. 3 John 2 (AMPC), “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your soul keeps well and prospers.”

We must understand that many of our physical ailments; anything from back and neck problems, knee problems, hearing, bacterial infections, viruses, or cancer could be coming upon our physical body because of what is in our soul! When we learn about what is in our souls and we begin getting healed in our souls, we will prosper and be in health even as the soul man is prospered!

Next week we will activate into healing our souls of trauma, I just had to do a bit more teaching on the soul first! Catch you then!

Thank you Katie. Deep profound teaching. I now know and understand why I was not Getting healed. I was not dealing with the root which is the soul.

I cannot wait for your next teaching about healing.

Understanding the Soul….I just came across this and find this very interesting….I really had a very good clear understanding about the difference between the “soul” and the “spirit”….I know the emotions, will, inner man is the “soul” part that is being transform, transformed, and continually being transformed….I know that the Holy Spirit is the person that heals those places where the “pain” of the memory was and changes my heart and the pain is no longer there…but what you are sharing, has more words describing what is going on inside having the word of God included….I’ve been on my own learning from the Lord and this is really good and adding this to my life. Thank you for sharing this and I’ll be looking forward to the next….AsOne Char.

Thank you for these powerful insights. I was trying to gain weight for years and nothing worked. Then in January the Holy Spirit told be to work on my soul and all will be well. During the course of this year I came across Katie Souza on TBN and started listening to her messages. I am now applying the prayers that I heard her pray, now slowly but surely I see changes in my life. The DUNAMIS of the Holy Spirit has been activated.
    Praise Jesus!
