Out of Sight, But Not Out of Mind-
Can you imagine having a gaping, painful, perhaps even a life-threatening wound, and just ignoring it? No way! It would be insane to even consider walking around doing life as usual, with a dangerously open and bleeding wound…and yet, believe it or not, this is exactly what many of us Christians do. No, we don’t go around bruised and bleeding outwardly, but inwardly, is another story. A sad story. A story that must change, if we’re going to live the abundant life Jesus has for us.
Don’t Stuff Your Stuff!
Why do we feel we can’t or shouldn’t get the help and healing that we need for our inner soul wounds? So many times, I believe, we buy into the lie that Christians “shouldn’t have those issues.” This mindset is a trap of the enemy to keep us from the very help and healing we desperately need.
The good news is, Jesus paid the price for our complete healing—body, soul, and spirit.
Look at this verse:
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)
You see, Jesus bore it all. A bruise is inward bleeding; or inner wounding. Jesus was bruised for your bruises! The blood of Jesus and the power of His resurrection provides our total healing and restoration.
How Did We Get Wounded?
Essentially, soul wounds are the result of sin and trauma. We live in a fallen world, and are born into sin. This world is a traumatic place to live. Even if you were born into good circumstances (many of us were not) and had loving parents (many of us did not), painful events still occur and afflict our souls. We sin, and our sin opens the door for the enemy to wound and afflict us. Others sin against us, knowingly and unknowingly, causing real damage and harm to our souls.
The Reality of an Open Wound:
The sad reality of unhealed and untreated wounds, is that they fester! In the natural, they become breeding grounds for germs and bacteria. Eventually, death and decay will take over. It’s similar with spiritual wounds. Left unattended by the love, power, and healing of Jesus, our soul wounds attract unclean spirits. These inner wounds are beacons to demonic spirits and become access points for torment and oppression. In this way, our soul wounds will eventually make us slaves to cycles of sin which leave us defeated…unless, we get healed!
Some of us may think, “It’s ok… I’m ok… I’ll just ‘tough it out’, ignore my pain, and look forward to eternity in Heaven.” Well, THANK God, we do have that to look forward to! However, this mindset is so far beneath the quality of real life, that Jesus died to give us! He doesn’t want us to just hobble through this life, barely making it, vexed, anxious, fearful, jealous, suspicious, angry, bitter, timid, weak, harmful, and toxic. No way! This, is what Jesus wants:
“The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” John 10:10 (AMPC)
You see…The devil has a plan for your life too. The enemy wants to destroy your life, and Jesus wants you to have ABUNDANT LIFE. Let’s choose life! Friend, let me tell you, abundant life is not stuffing your stuff, ignoring your issues, and “fakin’ it ‘til you make it.” Abundant life is spelled F-R-E-E-D-O-M, and it came at a inconceivable cost—God’s own blood.
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7 (NASB)
Your Soul Is Loved!
The Lover of Your Soul is one of the names ascribed to Jesus. How beautiful… He loves your soul (your thought life, will, and feelings). He loves you, not the “someday in heaven” you, but the right now, “just as you are” you. He knows you fully, every nook and cranny of your heart, and still loves you passionately and unconditionally! So don’t hide your wounds or your issues; instead, bring them to the Lover of Your Soul. Under His faithful care and ministry, He will love you into holiness and freedom, and into the “abundant life” you long for. That is who He is…
“He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.” Psalms 147:3 (NASB)
Pray this with me, now:
Lord Jesus, I ask that you heal all the wounds in my soul. I believe that You can wash me clean of any sin that wounded me, both known and unknown. Heal me of every trauma I have lived through, and wipe out all the generational iniquities and wounds in my family line. I believe that You are the Lover of My Soul, and will cause me to have breakthrough in every area that I need healing in. I thank You in advance for every victory and blessing that’s coming my way!
In Jesus’ name! Amen!
Next time, I’ll be teaching you about the Glory and the Light of Christ.
Until then…
