Soaking – What is it, and how do I do it?

I’m so excited to share with you guys in this blog one of my favorite topics, Soaking!

The truth is, I talk about soaking a lot, because I do it a lot! I need to! I’ll be honest, life can be quite draining…difficulties, work, relationships, hello…even traffic…can suck the strength and life right out of us, can’t it? We need renewal continually! The Bible says that when you wait on the Lord, He will renew your strength (Isa. 41), and I have learned that if I position myself to soak in the presence of the Lord—strength comes! I want to take some time and share with you some brief but powerful insights from my own experience with soaking.

What Is Soaking?
Think of soaking as simply an elongated time in the Lord’s presence. Doesn’t that just sound awesome! I compare it to a basic example that we can all relate to: stained laundry. If you had a stain on a shirt and you wanted to get the stain out, you’d put some soap on it and then you would put it in water, but you wouldn’t bring it right back out again immediately, would you? No, you would soak it. You would let it stay in that water with the soap on it so that the water and soap could really work into the stain to lift the stain out. That’s basically what soaking does for us as we stay in the presence of the Lord for these elongated times. It helps that “staining” in us to come out–the wrong thinking patterns, the unbalanced emotional cycles, the diseases and the disorders. All of those kinds of “stains” will come out as we stay and soak in the presence.

Why Is Soaking So Important?
Do you want the raw, unfiltered truth? You are going to soak one way or the other. Think about it. We are either soaking in all the negative things of the world—all the evil, all the trauma, all the situations that are hitting us—or we can choose God’s embrace and soak in His atmosphere of love and power.

The world around us is often so toxic. However, if you stay in the presence of the Lord, soaking in the glory, you will get fully saturated in what you really need—God’s love and power!

Don’t Just Get a Dab, Get Drenched!
So many times Christians have a “little dab’ll do ya” mentality! We say a little prayer, sing a little song, say a little “shondai” and miss out on the glorious transformation that comes to those who continue soaking in the glory!

Moses had experience with that didn’t he?! Wow, he spent weeks in the glory and what happened, do you remember? He left glowing!

“When Moses came down from Mount Sinai … he did not know that the skin of his face was shining [with a unique radiance] because he had been speaking with God.” EXODUS 34:29 (AMP) 

Do you realize that you have so much more available to you as a believer than even Moses had? You don’t have to go up a mountain to meet God…He lives in you! And you can commune with Him anytime, anywhere. And, just like with Moses, God’s weighty glory will soak you and change you, too!

And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.” 2 CORINTHIANS 3:17-18 (AMP)

What about you, friend? Is the residue of the past still staining your soul? Have you lost the hope for real freedom from pain and shame? I want to encourage you today— God’s healing power is available to you. Draw near and let Him transform you. Let Him fill you and heal you as you just simply soak in His loving presence.

Simply Soak!
Oh, how the enemy loves to remind us of the past. He likes to torment us by taunting us with a fearful vision of a bleak and unchanged future but he is just a liar. You are changing from glory to glory as you simply soak and behold Jesus.

I hope and pray that this discussion has stirred your heart. Let’s put into practice this practical and powerful principle of soaking. Let’s give God not just quality but also quantity time. Allow Him to soak into the “fibers” of your soul and remove the stains of sin and trauma. Soak in Him until your strength and youth is renewed. Give God the opportunity to give you what you need—true rest, real peace, and lasting transformation.
