Sit Down, Shut Up, and Do Your Job!

“Sit Down, Shut Up, and Do Your Job!”
by Jean Mulquin

“For the third test, the Devil took him to the peak of a huge mountain. He gestured expansively, pointing out all the earth’s kingdoms, how glorious they all were. Then he said, ‘They’re yours—lock, stock, and barrel. Just go down on your knees and worship me, and they’re yours.’

Jesus’ refusal was curt: ‘Beat it, Satan!’ He backed his rebuke with a third quotation from Deuteronomy: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and only him. Serve him with absolute single-heartedness.’

The Test was over. The Devil left. And in his place, angels! Angels came and took care of Jesus’ needs.'” Matthew 4:2-3 (MSG)

I was in a test that lasted a long time. God had clearly spoken to me to quit my high paying job as an Operations Manager, because He was calling me into ministry to help women. However, nothing I tried for the next 10 years worked! During that time, I went to work at a church and had to work for the most difficult person I had ever encountered. That is saying something, because I had managed six departments of all men and dealt with truck drivers on a daily basis!

God kept saying to me, “Sit down, shut up, and do your job…I have your back!” I was not supposed to get involved with the church politics. I did what God told me to do (even though some nights my tongue would practically bleed from biting it)!

I wanted to pass the test of being both obedient, and content in whatever situation God put me in until He advanced me.

Then one day, that difficult person found a different job and I was asked to fill that position. My salary was almost doubled overnight!! I knew I had passed my test when the Senior Pastor told me that taking that position would “help me with my assertiveness!” I had to laugh. I told him, “Oh, I have no problem being assertive…I can even be downright aggressive when I need to be.” Then I told him a bit about my history and said, “What I’ve been working on is being submissive to authority, and I guess I passed the test!”

My husband, John, and I were already volunteering for Katie’s ministry, and I let the Pastor I was working directly under know, that I would have to go with Katie when she called me, but that took two more years before that call came.

What test are you in right now? What is the Lord trying to teach or develop in you?

Think about how many times you have been in a similar test before.

What are you doing differently this time, so you can pass the test and move forward in your walk with God?

Have you been blessed by this ministry? If so, consider Partnering with us or making a One Time Gift! I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers!

Good evening Katie, I thank you for your help. Last night I listened to you on YouTube. The subject was on Pride, rebellion and. I was confronted with those things in my soul. I was deceived and blinded about this. My heart desire is to get ride of these unattractive, mindset that I have. I thank you for your saying yes to the call and paying the price for the anointing God has given you. I woke late this afternoon and I have no pain in my neck and lower back. You ministered to me and I experienced a break through. I have been a Christian for many years and have gone through many things. I was never taught the things you are teaching to the church and I was sceptical. I thank once again for this ministry. God bless you.

    Jean,

This was such a relevant word for me. Thank you for sharing your testimony and exhortation. You have put me in remembrance of Philippians 1:6 (AMPC):

“And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.”

GLORY! JESUS digs to the foundation (takes years?) and then rebuilds.

First he gave me gold. Really. M. Hicky called and told me where to find gold. God promised me gold years before but I expected to be a pastor first. I had it all backwards. GLORY to God!

Amazing! I just read Matthew 4 to my children today (and 1 John 2) and taught them the forms or paths of temptation, what Jesus did to fight it, how we can do the same, and the joy of being obedient. The will to handle any situation on our own can get us into a lot of trouble and cause us to miss out on what God has in stored for us. But when we swallow the urge to do it ourselves, humble our will power, and allow our Almighty to do his work, wonderful things can happen.

Jean….this was fun to read! And to make me think. I think I’m doing things differently, but I’ll most certainly be asking Holy Spirit about that today. Thank you for willingly sharing!! Love, love!

Amen. I searched up Christian blogs and found and went down to Sept 12, 2019 to see what was on my birthday! I needed this. God is so so good and He’s got my back
