Hearing from God Lesson 6

As I put my mom back in bed, I told her that God would give her a confirmation of her own. We decided I would read scripture to her and see if He made anything stand out to her. She drifted in and out of sleep because she was so heavily medicated. Suddenly, she popped awake, and said, “You changed the cover of your book. The handcuffs are different. They’re open now. They look like a closed ‘C’ and an ‘M.’” (When handcuffs are slightly open, they look like a “C.” When they are all the way open, they look like an “M.”) She asked me if I knew what she meant. I tried to tell her we had not changed to cover, but she drifted off again.

I was disappointed because I did not think we were making any progress with getting a confirmation of her own for her. This caused my frustration to grow. In response, I turned on the television. I paused the show I was watching to answer the telephone and upon turning the program back on, the screen was frozen with a picture of a pair of handcuffs staring back at me. One was opened like a “C” and another like an “M.” In His sovereignty, God had my friend call at that precise moment, so I could get that picture paused on my television. It was my mom’s confirmation! A second later, upon unpausing the show I was watching, the cuffs fell to the ground, and I would have missed the whole thing. I shook mom awake and showed her the screen. She said, “That is what I saw a few minutes ago!”

People can be semi-conscious on medication, and still see perfectly in the spirit, because their spirit-man is made perfect upon their regeneration in Christ. We have the Spirit of Christ living in us when we are born again. My mom was seeing in the spirit, and I thought she was babbling.

We all felt this had something to do with Bethel, but I did not know what to do next, so I went before the Lord and used my “hearing from God” skills. I got quiet and in my mind, and in my own voice, I heard, “fast.” I said, “Okay, Lord, if that was You, give me a scripture.” I got quiet again, and in my mind I heard Isaiah 58:12 (AMPC), which reads, “And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of [buildings that have laid waste for] many generations (mom’s body); and you shall be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.”

I said, “Okay, we are supposed to fast.” The next day, my dad and I fasted. I asked God what He wanted me to do first. I got quiet and I heard, “Isaiah 58.” I asked Him to give me something else, because I thought I knew all of what was in Isaiah 58, but He did not budge.

When I got to verse 11, I knew why. It says, “And the Lord shall guide you continually and satisfy you in drought and in dry places and make strong your BONES…” (Bone scripture number three)!

This chapter also talks about the Lord being our rear guard and sending an angel before us to make our way prosperous. I wrote that down in my journal, because I felt a stirring in my spirit when I read that, though I wasn’t sure what God was telling me.
