God Turns Things Around!

God Turns Things Around!
(written while incarcerated in 2001)
by Katie Souza

I finally got a chance to call mom and dad. Our attorneys couldn’t go to the oral court hearing, so for the first time ever, the appeals court offered to have us submit 5 pages for each lawyer. That is 15 for us and 5 for my co-defendant.

Today is my first day off in a while; praise God!  Agnes, Deena, and I went to see Doris and Rozzie about the tithing system and we got it worked out!

Today is the 15th of September and Proverbs 15:25 (ESV) says, “The Lord tears down the house of the proud…” – that was the lesson that I learned in the visiting room experience – I needed to squash my pride and let go.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE! James 3:14-16 (ESV) “But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.” Wow, selfish ambition – Guilty as charged – Forgive me, Father!

After church on Sunday, Sherrie was crying and she told me she didn’t want to leave me here alone. Her tears touched my heart so much! I have never had a friend that was so loving and loyal to me before.  Oh, Father, I don’t deserve this.  Thank you for blessing me with this awesome friend.  Please, Father, allow me to go to Holland to see her; provide a way for me to go. I don’t know what I would do if I never got to see her again.  I love her Father. Thank you for her Lord.

God restored the music ministry to me! Tonight was the second inmate service! Wow, I opened in prayer from 1 Chronicle 7 and the choir sang. Miss M tricked me!! I sang “I Want to Walk Like Jesus” for the first time and then I sang “Grace and Mercy”. People told me that they loved it.  Thank You, Jesus.  Doris preached, and I closed in prayer.

Today, I got a revelation to write down my personal revelations that I get from God’s word into my own story when I write my book.

Did the SHU (Special Housing Unit) floor. We got Marcia Dugan on our crew and she did the floor with us.

We saw Mr. H. at 6:00 AM. He told Sherrie and I, “You all just came here to spy on the floors!” Mr. Y told us, “You can step on it. It just looks wet.”  Mr. V. told us that he has the best crew in the prison! Mr. H. said, “Who signed them off?”  Mr. V. said, “You did!”

Marnie’s ok now. I talked with Ms. S. today again, and I start her floors tonight with Agnes.  We did the floors at the Warden’s Complex … all good.

“And when the men of that place recognized him, they sent around to all that region and brought to him all who were sick and implored him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.” Matthew 14:35-36 (ESV)

Today, I did not work after 10:30 AM. I went to prayer at 12:30 PM (finally). Lord, it’s been a while! Then I attended the first English prayer meeting at 8:00 PM. Afterward, I worked on tomorrow’s Bible study and on typing.

“Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.  I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I may have Christ and become one with him.”  Philippians 3:8-9 (NLT) DIE TO SELF!

Work, 12:30 PM prayer meeting, then 8:00 PM English prayer.

I led Bible study for the first time! I taught on Jeremiah 6:10 and 1 Samuel 17:28 about the word, “reproach”. (Merriam-Webster defines reproach as “the expression of rebuke or disappointment.”  Reproach tries to distract us, like David’s big brother tried to distract him from Goliath. David ignored his brother’s jibe and turned his focus right back on Goliath, and that’s what we must do!

Isn’t it awesome how God had already begun to turn things around for me? First, the news about the appeal, second, we got the tithing thing worked out, third God restored the music ministry to me, fourth, I got the revelation to write down my personal revelations (which led to how I wrote my first book – The Captivity Series, The Key to your Expected End), fifth, our floor crew got major accolades and healing with Marnie, and last, my very first time to teach Bible study was a success! All this in just a few short days!

I am so glad that I journaled, so I am able to look back and see the goodness of God in my life, even while incarcerated!

Think back to a time that everything seemed to be going wrong.  Can you see how God worked things out for you?

Tell us about it!
