A Higher Life

Aren’t you thrilled that this Christian life is not meant to be lived by your own wisdom, strength, or natural ability? Jesus did not just redeem us and give us a message and a mission; He also gave us power! In fact, He told His first followers to wait for the power:

“…but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (NASB)

The word “power” in this scripture is “Dunamis”. According to Thayer’s Greek Lexicon, dunamis is strength, power, and ability.

Let’s take a look at a few of the “powerful” aspects of Dunamis, and learn more about how God wants to release His dunamis, to make Jesus, in you a true “dynamic duo”!

Inherent Power

One of the meanings of dunamis is “Inherent Power”, which is the revelation to us that dunamis is part of God’s nature. He doesn’t just have power–He is powerful! It is who He is. Wherever He is, all the power of heaven is, and friend, that includes you! The Holy One has made you His dwelling place, so dunamis lives and dwells in you. Wherever you go, you bring heaven’s power with you, too!

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves.” 2 Cor. 4:7 (NASB)

“…because as He is, so also are we in this world.” 1 John 4:17b (NASB)

Because of this great treasure within, we are His ambassadors, His witnesses, His look-a-like co-workers. This is accomplished in and through us by His power, not by our own ability, talents, intellect, or striving. No, when He displays His greatness through you and I, it will be clear “that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves”. He wants to display His dunamis through your life, and through you, display His nature to the world around you. Wow! What a high calling! Rest assured, whatever He calls you to do, He equips you to do. You are equipped with dunamis; it resides within you already! You don’t have to get more dunamis. Rather, it’s time to become better at using it.

Miracle Power

Do you know that the way Jesus performed the miracles described in the Bible was through the anointing of dunamis? Look at this verse:

“You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Acts 10:38 (NASB)

Jesus’ miracle power conquers evil and makes all things new! Now, because of the blood He shed, and His resurrection life, we too, overcome. God has given you supernatural help for breakthrough and miracles in every area of your life.

Moral Power

All the miracles of Jesus were performed by dunamis, but that same miracle dunamis is also moral dunamis. In other words, Jesus did not just heal bodies…He healed souls, and through Jesus, we have the power to have excellence of soul! The soul is where we make choices, experience feelings, and process thoughts. We all know that excellence in these areas is just as vital as excellent health. Jesus’ dunamis heals us completely—inside and outside—physical as well as moral weaknesses. That is excellent news! Friends, we are not stuck like chuck. No, by the power of Christ, we are being transformed in our mind, attitudes, motivations, thought patterns, personality, and behavior. Yes, we are going from glory to glory, by the power of Holy Spirit at work in us. Why? Because He’s making us into His image; He is producing His nature in us:

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” 2 Cor. 3:18 (NASB)

How Should This Affect The Way We Live?

Greatly! Remember, Holy Spirit brought this power on the inside of you when you were born again. Dunamis can transform every part of your life! Friend, are you living and believing that way? Let me encourage you today: dunamis, miracle working power, and the power to have excellence of soul, is in you and waiting to be released and activated. Let faith arise in your heart, and begin releasing God’s powerful anointing to work through you and inside you, right now!

Decree this out loud:

Lord Jesus, I believe you! I believe that I have a tankful of power that never runs out. I am not under the power of the enemy; I am an overcomer through You, Lord. I put the dunamis that is in me, to work right now. I release dunamis to heal me of all the trauma in my soul and my body. I decree, Your healing power is at work right now, in my body, my relationships, my mind, my will, and my emotions! I’m being healed of all trauma, and becoming excellent of soul. Thank You, Jesus, for all You accomplished through Your death and resurrection. I choose to receive it and walk in it. Amen!
