The Devil Wants to Talk You to Death
We know the goal of the enemy is to steal, kill, and destroy—

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John‬ ‭10:10‬ ‭(NIV)‬‬‬‬

That’s his “endgame”, and his game plan…is WORDS. Yes, he was a liar from the beginning and his method has never changed. Just as he came to Eve and sold her a pack of lies and deception, he still needles his way into our lives (if we have a legal landing strip for him) with his demonic chatter.

Demonic Chatter-
Did you know that you don’t do anything without “doing” it first, in your mind? You don’t go anywhere that you don’t first “go” mentally. As the saying goes, “Where the mind goes, the man follows.” We only birth actions (good or evil) that we first conceive in our minds. Why is this truth so important, and why are we discussing it? Because if we are going to wage a good warfare against demonic forces and WIN, we have to get real about the battle over our thought life!

The great battlefield of life is not in the boardroom, the schoolroom, or the courtroom. It’s in the little room between your ears friend…your mind. The battle is won or lost in that very important space and just like with any battle, the goal is to take territory. Never doubt it— the enemy is hard after the real estate in your head. He wants to infiltrate and start constructing his demonic strongholds of lies right there in your mind (part of your soul). His effective weapon is demonic chatter.

No Trespassing!
Your responsibility is to enforce Christ’s victory through the cross, and not allow the devil to have even one inch of your mind! How do we enforce that victory? Let’s talk about three important ways:

1. Capture Every Thought
I’ve heard the illustration before that our mind is like a tree and our thoughts are like birds. Some birds may fly through and others may land and choose to build a nest. Our job as believers is to not allow ungodly demonic thoughts to roost in our mind. Paul says it this way:

For though we walk (live) in the flesh, we are not carrying on our warfare according to the flesh and using mere human weapons. For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds, [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 AMPC

So, whatever lie, whatever lofty and prideful thought, whatever unbelieving speculation comes “flying through” our minds, we assess it, judge it, capture it, and pull it down. We don’t let it build a nest by marinating on it and listening to it over, and over. As I said earlier, if you think about it long enough it will turn into an action:

● Worrisome thoughts turn into rash decisions.
● Prideful thoughts turn into mean words.
● Thoughts of rejection turn into angry outbursts.
● Covetous thoughts turn into irresponsible spending.

You get the idea, right? We have to become skilled at policing our own thought life. Jesus won’t do it for us!

2. Fill Your Mind with the Right Things
Another powerful way that we guard our mind is by proactively, intentionally furnishing our mind with Godly things. Through our ear gates, eyes gates, and mouth gates:

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
‭‭Philippians ‭4:8‬ ‭(NASB)‬‬‬‬‬‬

Well, this isn’t rocket science, is it? Nope, just good ol’ common sense. If there’ no room for demonic chatter in our mind space, then it can’t get in! Yep, simply crowd out the noise of the enemy. Fill your gates with beauty, truth, excellence, and praise until you overflow with goodness, and nothing evil can break through! Chose clean movies, music, and healthy conversations! Be intentional about what you allow in that space, that isn’t Godly.

3. Put on Your Helmet (Hope) of Salvation!
We have been given a piece of armor from God that specifically protects our minds:

“But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.” 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭(NASB)‬‬‬‬

God wants us to guard our hearts with faith and love, and He wants us to guard our minds with HOPE. Hope is the powerful and important building block of faith (Heb 11:1).

God wants our minds not to be a playground for Legion and demonic chatter, but rather to be a paradise of Godly thoughts of hope. Hope thoughts are the “food” for our faith! Hope thoughts say things like:

● “I can do anything with Christ’s help!”
● “God is with me wherever I go!”
● “I am blessed to be a blessing!”
● “I am who God says I am!”
● “God hears and answers my prayers!”
● “I am excellent of Soul”
● “I am filled with dunamis power, I have a tankful!”

Friend, those are the power thoughts that the devil is working hard to hinder you from having! Why? Because A HOPE FILLED YOU IS UNSTOPPABLE!
