Can we as human beings ascend into heaven? Yes! Here are the Biblical proofs; the most important example of a man ascending into heaven is Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus Christ came to earth as a man. Philippians 2:8 (AMPC) tells us that Jesus gave up His divinity shedding His rights that He had in heaven to come to earth. He debased Himself to come to earth as a human being and He even endured the extreme pain of the cross in a human body in total obedience to God. Jesus had to come to earth as a man without sin or He could not be the atoning sacrifice for the rest of mankind. In John 5:19 (AMPC) Jesus says twice, that He can do nothing of Himself but only as He is taught by God.
Jesus says this while speaking to Nicodemus in John 3:12 (NKJV) “If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.” What is Jesus saying? He was telling Nicodemus, that He is here now on earth as a man, and while here on earth, He has also ascended into heaven as a man. On earth He was operating as a man, just like us. However, by the Spirit of God working inside of Him, He was enabled to ascend into heaven while here on earth. Jesus always paves the way for us! He was the first one to be seated in heavenly realms while still on earth. (Ephesians 2:6) He does it first, and then we do what He did. The Spirit of God is part of the eternal realm where there is no time or distance and He lives in us too, enabling us to ascend into heaven with Him. Jesus shows us what we as men in right relationship to God can accomplish by the Spirit of God. Being able to ascend into the heavens may seem like a mysterious or hard thing. Jesus knew we might have difficulty understanding it at first. That’s why He said what he did to Nicodemus.
Nicodemus was a Pharisee, a leader among men, and a teacher of Scripture. Yet, Jesus knew that when He shared this mystery of the Kingdom with him, he would have difficulty understanding it, even though he was a scholarly man, well versed in scriptural truth. Just because we can’t fully grasp something does not mean it is not the truth; it is just a matter of peeling off the darkness of our understanding. The eyes of our heart must be flooded with light so as Paul said in Ephesians 1:17, we can know the secrets and the mysteries of God in the deep intimate knowledge of Him. Jesus said in John 16:12-13 (AMPC) “I have many things to say to you, but you are not able to bear them or to take them upon yourself or to grasp them now. But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the full and whole Truth).”
Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, is going to come and reveal this kingdom precept to you so that you can take hold of it. Why, because we need to solve problems. If people are sick, we want to figure out how to get them well. If there is a demonic invasion, we want to know how to get rid of it. If we have lack in our lives we want to know how to get provision released. As we take hold of this truth, ascending into heaven, will become an important tool that will solve problems in our lives and the lives of the people that we love! Instead of being a Christian that is powerless, empty, and fruitless, we will have the breakthrough and others will see that we have something that they don’t have. We have Jesus!
Many men in the Bible ascended into the homeland of heaven. In Revelation 4:1-2 (AMPC), the apostle John records his experience, “After this I looked, and behold, a door open to heaven! And a voice came which I heard addressing me like [the calling of] a war trumpet. It said, Come up here, and I will show you what must take place in the future. At once I came under the [Holy] Spirit’s power, and behold, a throne stood open in heaven, and One seated on the throne!” John was a man, just like us, but he ascended into heaven.
Next week, I will continue with more proofs and a very funny testimony about why it is important for us to ascend! Till next time….
