Are You Sold Out to God?

Are You Sold Out to God?
by Jean Mulquin

“Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God! — is vigorous and requires total attention.”
Matthew 7: 13-14 (MSG)

There have been times in my life that I have looked for shortcuts to God. One such time was after John and I got married. We moved further away from the awesome church we had gone to while we were dating. Then, with five kids to care for and a demanding full-time job, we quit attending church altogether.  Our excuse was that on every other Sunday we had to shuttle kids to their respective homes to see their other parents (John and I both had kids when we married and he had children with two ex-wives).

Being close to God became harder. Even though I believed that I felt the same about Him, my focus was on the kids and their issues. My son, Chris, needed special classes and had exercises to perform in the evenings (which he hated), and as a blended family, we had issues with all of our kids at one time or the other.

But, Holy Spirit was constantly working, wooing me back to Himself! Every time I would drive past a small church on 59th Avenue, I would feel Him nudging me. “You really need to try that church out!” So, when life’s circumstances were so difficult that I could no longer ignore that still small voice, I finally attended that church with a friend. I knew in my “knower” that I was home!  Soon, my entire family was attending church, getting saved, and baptized along with many of their friends!

Before, God had been part of my life, but now He is my life.

I have been sold out to God and to what He wants for me since I said “yes” to Holy Spirit that day and I have not let being busy pull me away again. It has not always been easy, but it has been worth it!!

Are you “sold out to God”?

If not, what is holding you back?

If you don’t know, try getting quiet and let God speak a word or a scripture into your spirit. He wants to tell you what the problem is.
