Are Trances Biblical?

Heavenly Places

You may live on planet earth but in Christ you have a different address! You are seated in heavenly places:

“…and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,” Ephesians 2:6 (NKJV)

In this blog I want to discuss with you how you can act and interact with the Lord from that position in the heavenly realm. We are not to function as earthbound combatants fighting against a stronger, higher enemy. No way. The enemy has been cast down; Jesus has the title deed to the earth. All authority in heaven and earth is His and He has placed it in us so that we can legally enforce His victory! We say “as in heaven so on earth” not because that’s a nice way to pray…but because it’s our job! It’s our mandate! We are establishing the kingdom rule and reign of God, and we do it from heavenly places.

Trances
One way we ascend is through the biblical experience of going into trances. I believe the church has ignored this topic (which is throughout the Bible) out of fear of being “out there” or involved in New Age practices. So let’s look to the Bible on this powerful topic!

First of all, the word “trance” means “a half-conscious state seemingly between sleeping and waking in which the ability to function voluntarily may be suspended.” In the Old Testament it is the word “tardemah” translated as deep sleep. In the New Testament it is the word “ekstasis” from which we get our word ecstasy. Let’s look at a few examples.

Genesis 2 – God caused Adam to go into a ‘deep sleep’. While he was in that trance, God did surgery on him. As he was in this deep sleep, God opened his body up and created Eve. That is a big encounter!

Genesis 15 – When God was cutting a covenant with Abraham to give him and his descendants the land of Canaan, it says that God put Abraham into a ‘deep sleep’ (trance). Again, here is God taking His man into a trance in order to bring a major visitation. Major!

Acts 22 – In this chapter, the apostle Paul talks about going into a trance:

“Then when I had come back to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple [enclosure], I fell into a trance (an ecstasy); And I saw Him as He said to me, Hurry, get quickly out of Jerusalem, because they will not receive your testimony about Me.” v17-18 (AMPC)

Paul was taken in a trance, “that half-conscious state seemingly between sleeping, and waking,” and during it, he received a very clear vision.

Acts 10 – Peter was on top of a roof waiting for his meal and praying when,

“…he fell into a trance and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth.” Acts 10:10-11 (NKJV)

I believe Peter was going up (ascending) because the scripture says the heavens were opened. When the heavens opened, he saw visions – clear visions. Why? Because he was first taken into a deep sleep or trance. It enabled him to be positioned physically to receive, to see these amazing encounters with God. This significant trance showed Peter that God accepted all people, not just Jews, into the New Covenant.

Ascend!
How many of you want a greater seer anointing? One of the best ways to grow is to let yourself go into that deep sleep, positioning yourself to ascend and receive. I’m going to tell you how!

• I have trained myself and you can too!
• I wake up in the morning and pray for about an hour in tongues.
• Then, I position myself to ascend; I lay down with my journal and pen next to me.
• I will just sit there and say, “OK, Lord. I wash myself in the Blood of Jesus. Thank you for Your blood. The blood enables me to go up.”
• I make decrees that I have a legal right to go up, because I am seated in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus; I am a citizen of heaven.
• I’ll let myself be pulled into a trance as I command my spirit to go up into the heavens and I will enter into that trance-like deep sleep, and a picture or a “video clip” will come.
• I have trained myself to wake up and write it down.

Often during these times of revelation, God will show me what to pray for, who to intercede for, how to decree and bring heaven into the earth realm. I have had amazing experiences in these times as I partner with God to accomplish His will.

Expect “Ecstatic” Experiences!
Friends, life with God is thrilling and never boring—ecstasy is a great word to describe it, wouldn’t you say? Trances (ekstasis) are Biblical experiences, always connected with important transactions between heaven and earth. Listen, that is what you do as a child of God—heavenly transactions! You are doing kingdom of Heaven business in prayer and intercession, and these ecstatic experiences are meant to be a helpful part of that. Put your faith in God and as a citizen of heaven, ask for ecstatic experiences!
